Materials and proof

We make things from two materials: yak wool and cashmere. This page says what they are, what is on the label, and what we do and do not claim.

Yak wool

Yak wool is the underdown that yaks grow for the Mongolian winter and shed in spring. The fibre is fine, dense and matte, with a soft fluff on the surface. It comes in the animal's own colours, mostly deep brown and grey, and it takes dye well. Yak wool is less known than cashmere and costs less for the same warmth, which is why many of our everyday pieces are made of it.

Cashmere

Cashmere is the underdown of the cashmere goat, combed out by hand in spring. Mongolian cashmere grows in a cold, dry climate, which gives a long, fine fibre. Our cashmere pieces are 100% cashmere, with no blended-in wool or synthetics.

What the label says

Every piece carries a label with its fibre composition in percent by weight, in the fibre names set by EU Regulation 1007/2011. The same composition is printed on the product page under Composition and care and under Label and proof. If the label says 100% cashmere, the piece is 100% cashmere.

Where it is made

Our pieces are knitted in Mongolia from Mongolian yarn by a family-owned factory. The label says Made in Mongolia.

What we say, and what we do not

We say only what we can measure or show: the fibre, the percentage, where the piece was knitted, how to care for it. Anything we cannot measure, we do not say.

We do not claim a piece lasts a lifetime. With the care on our care page, a piece keeps its shape and softness for many seasons.

Why one material per piece

A single-fibre piece is easier to wash, easier to repair and easier to recycle than a blend. It is also easier to describe honestly. One material, one number on the label.
